Now the internet has become accessible to the general public it has incorporated media industries especially music. It has made music from every culture available in most countries in the world.
Most music is now available on the internet legally via Itunes. This has made music cheaper and means that you will always be able to purchase it as they won't run out of copys as it is electronic. There is competition from other internet sites such as amazon, eMusic, napstar (now becoming legal), rhapsody. This therefore means there is competition between these websites once again lowering the price of music.
With youtube becoming a global success people are now watching music videos more often then ever before. You can easily chose what video you want to listen and watch whenever you are on the computer for free.Although it was made illegal for a short while as it was a breach of copyright.
However then Vevo came along and paid the music record labels to play the videos and make the money back by advertising products on the account. VEVO offers music videos from three of the 'big four' major record labels: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and EMI. Vevo not only focuses on youtube but also, ipod applications, launched a channel on google television, android phones and have promised that applications for over phones will immediatly follow.
This shows another way the internet has been used successfully to make more money in the music industry and create new jobs.
All the major radio stations realised that more and more people and spending more and more of time on the internet and have all got an internet website where you can listen live on the radio and also catch up on any shows you have missed from the past week. For the radio station Kiss this is called the 'Kisskube' capital, heart and all the others also have the listen live. This has meant that they can stay in operation even if analogue radio no longer lasts in the technological age.
Therefore we can see that the internet has made a massive change to the way music is distributed to us the audience. It has made it more accessible and affordable; however the internet has also meant that it is easier and now free (as you now don't have to pay for the cd's) to illegal download.
