This is when the camera angle remains static but there is a cut in the film. It is rarely used in hollywood movies as it looks unprofessional and would make the film look like it is not actually happening and would lose the readers attention. However they are frequently used in music videos in order to jar the audience, surprise the audience and make us take note. However it is done in music videos as it breaks the realism and adds a new perspective. It make it known to the audience that it is not real life and they are watching something. This is a post modern convention making the audience know they are watching something fake rather than it being real life.
